Once the fight began, the double doors to the only exit sealed shut, opening only once the fight was over. This tunnel was the only exit from the Maul unless of course, you hearthed. An NPC named Griniblix the Spectator would enthusiastically yell that one of three random spawns had appeared. He could be heard by anybody inside the Maul. Skarr the Broken now spawns in the eastern mountains of the Lower Wilds.
On a side note, at 76, 48 in Feralas you can still find Griniblix the Spectator. I managed to find Skarr and Razza up at the same time within a couple of minutes of each other.
He spawned within 30mins, allowing me to get some nice shots of all three. In the Maul, they were known for some nice blue drops. Nowadays, they drop green quality items which are suitable for levellers in the area.
Back then we spent quite a lot of time in Dire Maul and managed to see and kill the rares several times. On another occasion, I helped cause the death of a certain druid. As a joke, I shot him and some of the others in our group joined in. As his health got low, I decided to turn my character around thinking I would stop auto-shooting him in time.
The ability does decent damage and each of its four ticks can crit, however, it is a channeled spell and cannot be interrupted. The problem I have with it is that during the casting of Froststorm Breath, the Chimaera cannot cast any other abilities — including Dive. In short, I see it as a situational ability for PvP.
So far, the only times I could see using it would be: when trying to flush out a nearby stealthed enemy, when facing an enemy with high physical damage mitigation, or when trying to AoE a group of enemies trying to capture a flag in a BG.
I was seeing crits in the 8. Considering you can sandwich it between two Kill Commands during Bestial Wrath, that translates to about 7 seconds worth of pretty insane pet damage. One thing that kinda blows about Froststorm Breath is its relatively small range.
Another thing to note is that the Froststorm Breath ability needs to be micro-managed, as it cannot be auto-cast. I loved it when Froststorm Breath functioned like Frost Breath, but had the added damage portion. Those were the days…. Live PTR. Classic TBC. Quick Facts.
